Oliver Winery–Downtown has just opened! It is the latest downtown Bloomington hot spot, on the west side of the courthouse square.
Along with all the Oliver wines, they feature house made desserts that include wine in the recipes. The Zinfandel Raspberry Sorbet, for example, is made using, you guessed it–Zinfandel! The suggested wine pairing is the Late Harvest Vignoles. There are 4 other desserts on the menu–Chocolate Pot de Créme, Ricotta Cheesecake Brûlée, Harvest Apple Cake and Sweet Tooth Soother–all come with suggested pairings.
Also on the menu are plates of gourmet meats and cheeses, many locally produced. These, too, come with suggested pairings.
The 26 Oliver wines offered are available as a single glass, full bottles, “Flights,” (a line up of 4 wines of a similar type–all white, all red, all sweet, etc.,) and cocktails.
The space, itself, is beautifully designed, with lots of light and the exposed original brick walls. Artwork by Lara Moore and beautiful photos from the vineyard, the winery and of the Oliver hot air balloons adorn the walls. There are tables inside and out and a separate room for events. Live music will be added, soon.
Drew Kincius had started out working at the main tasting room 3 1/2 years ago, became the event coordinator and is now managing the downtown space. “The later hours make this a great place to come after an evening event,” he tells me, “and is much easier for people to stop in for a business meeting, date, or get together.”
One other important thing the Drew pointed out–they are able to sell bottled wine on Sundays!
