Girl Scout cookies in a wine blog? Well, I must admit that I was surprised when I received a blog from a wine club about doing wine pairings with Girl Scout cookies, but then thought: why not? February is GS cookie time, so the timing is just right.

As a former Girl Scout leader and cookie mom, I am happy to support the cause, and the issue certainly piqued my interest, so I started Googling.

Kris Margerum, wine director at Napa Valley’s Auberge du Soleil, suggests the following pairings:

Trefoils: 2007 Schramsberg Blanc de Noirs sparkling wine
Savannah Smiles: 2010 Dr. Loosen Riesling-Kabinett
Samoas: Graham’s 20 year old tawny port
Tagalongs: Rare Wine Company’s “Imperial Old Reserve” Malmsey
Madeira

What, no Thin Mints pairing? Well, for that, further research produced suggested pairings from Elizabeth Borsting, a restaurant publicist and Girl Scout leader:

Thin Mints: Petit Syrah
Samoas: Port
Tagalongs: Riesling
Thank U Berry Munch: Cabernet Sauvignon
Lemon Chalet Cremes: Chardonnay
Do-si-dos: Champagne
Trefoils: Pinot Noir
Dulce de Leche–any dessert wine

So, run, don’t walk to your nearest Girl Scout cookie table–you can even download an app from their website to show you when and where to go to buy the cookies.

AND, now that all my former troop members are well past the legal drinking age, I think it is time for a reunion–how about it, ladies?
