Preview: 2010 Indiana Wine Fair @ Story
With Allen Dale 'Ole' Olson
April 5, 2010
The 2010 Indiana Wine Fair at Story, Saturday, April 24, is fast upon us. One of the state’s largest wine events, the Story Fair features pours by most of Indiana’s wineries, a chance to stroll among mid-nineteenth-century buildings, see and buy fine paintings, jewelry, and other crafts by renowned local artisans, and visit one of the most bucolic settings in the American Mid-West. Nor are the historic gourmet dining room and its impressive wine selection to be overlooked.

The gates open at 12:30, close at 7:00, rain or shine. The tasting stations are under cover. Admission is $20 ($15 through April 9 on-line at www.storyinn.com). Parking is free, as are the shuttle buses departing the Nashville Courthouse every 15 minutes starting at 12:00 noon.

Story is on State Route 135, about 13 miles south of Nashville, itself equi-distant from Indianapolis and Louisville. Food vendors will also be on hand all day offering everything from Brats and Barbeque to Fried Chicken. One last thought: if you’re under age 35, better have a photo ID to qualify for the tastings and a Story wine glass to keep.

You’ll also have a chance to try the medal-winning wines. Most wineries have submitted bottles in several categories for judges to select the best in each category. If you’re in the area the evening before, consider coming to the outdoor cabaret-style “Wine and all that Jazz”(8:00 – 10:00 p.m.) produced by faculty and students from the I.U. School of Music. Admission: $15 ($10 if under age 21). Gates open at 6:00 p.m.
